PUTTERIDGE High School pupils have triumphed in this year’s national Climate Week Challenge.
Students competed against schools and colleges all over the UK with over 130,000 people entering the competition.
Split into age groups, everyone had the same challenge – to come up with a creative idea in one day that will help the environment.
The winning team was comprised of Hannah James, Louise Hooton, Louise Currie, Laura Wiles, and Claire Attwood. Their winning idea was Reco Skates.
Recos would be made from recycled materials with a battery pack inside that is charged kinetically as you skate. The pack can then be removed to charge mobiles, music players and more.
A celebrity judging panel helped determine the winners, with stars such as Autumnwatch’s Kate Humble, Spooks star Sophia Myles and television presenter Michaela Strachan all getting involved.
Teacher Rachel Pack said: “The Climate Week Challenge was a great chance for pupils to put their classroom learning about climate change into practice.
“We were very excited to be part of the country’s biggest environmental competition.”
