NURSERY school children are getting into the Olympic spirit and training hard for their very own pentathlon this week.
Rothesay Nursery Olympic pupils will be competing at Hart Hill Adventure Playground for their gold medals.
They have been taking part in sports including rhythmic gymnastics, miniature weightlifting, basketball and – with the help of a Nintendo Wii –boxing.
Headteacher Janet Brownjohn said: “The pupils here at Rothesay are all really excited for the Olympics, and are really enjoying learning about and taking part in the sports.
“We’ve been very lucky to have support from parents and local athletes from the community, and have much more planned in the run up to the London Olympics.”
Creative pupils at the school designed and made their very own Rothesay Nursery Olympic Torch.
The school enlisted the help of parents and local athletes to help the children learn about the sports, while teaching them the Olympic values of respect, excellence and friendship.
Councillor Tahir Khan said: “Getting involved in sport at a young age has huge benefits for children. With the Olympics coming to London this summer, it’s a great opportunity for young people to discover a variety of sport.
“I’d like to wish everyone at Rothesay Nursery good luck for the rest of their training!”
