A trainee Boots dispenser whose hair is her pride and joy is having it shorn to show solidarity with her mum who’s lost hers after chemotherapy.
Yukari Ikeda, 25, of Marsh Farm said she was donating her locks to the Little Princess Trust which makes wigs for children whose hair has fallen out following cancer treatment.
She said: “I’m actually feeling very nervous and a little bit sick – I love my hair and don’t want it to go to waste, I want it to help someone else.”
The big chop is taking place at Boots in the Mall on Saturday (March 28) at 4pm.
One of Yukari’s colleagues, who happens to be a trained hairdresser, will wield the scissors.
Her manager Martin Copping will be riding a stationary bike in store to help boost funds on Friday and store manager Paul Stanners is having his legs and arms waxed.
Her mum Trudy is a support teacher in Southend and the two are very close, in spite of living so far apart.
