A Luton town centre site will be demolished to pave the way for a large scale development by the end of the year, according to its owner.
Power Court, off St Mary’s Road, has been an eyesore for years but following a successful application to Luton Borough Council its owners, British Land, can now clear the site for development.
Exactly what will be built on the site has not yet been finalised however.
Previous proposals have included a mixed-use scheme for retail units and an apartment complex.
James Duck, retail asset manager for British Land, told the Luton News: “Discussions are continuing with Luton Borough Council regarding a mixed-use scheme at Power Court.
“British Land and the council want to ensure the new development will be complementary to the existing town centre.
“While we continue to assess options for the scheme, we will be demolishing the majority of buildings on the site before the end of the year.”
