Active Luton has teamed up with the Prince’s Trust to run a free programme for people interested in a career in the health and leisure industry.
The programme is aimed at unemployed people aged between 16 and 25, it will run from Monday, February 23, to Thursday, March 19.
There will be opportunities for work experience at the Trust’s leisure centres and they will have the chance to gain qualifications in first aid, food safety and lifeguarding.
Anna Crump from the Prince’s Trust said: “This is a huge opportunity for any young person who is interested in the leisure industry and will enable them to get some experience which will help them in the future.”
Once the participants have completed the programme, they will be supported for up to six months to help them secure a job.
Helen Barnett, Chief Executive of Active Luton, said: “This programme is ideal for those who would be interested in pursuing a career in the sport and leisure industry.
“As a local charity we are committed to helping young people to thrive and prosper, and we know more than most just how many wonderful job opportunities there are in our industry.
“We are always looking to recruit people to work at our centres and this programme could be a stepping stone for anyone wanting to work as a lifeguard, gym instructor, swim coach and other related jobs.
“We would especially like young women to sign up as they are sometimes under-represented in these jobs.”
