A LUTON dinner lady was highly commended in a competition to find the region’s best school cook.
Doreen Peacock, a cook at Lealands High School, was commended for her creamy summer dessert.
She narrowly missed out on the Local Authority Caterers Association eastern school chef of the year title to Croxley Green chef Wendy Kemp.
Doreen, Wendy and another school cook from Flitwick battled it out for the top prize in a cook off at Bedford College last week judged by a panel that included two 11-year-old pupils from Leagrave Primary School.
Lynda Mitchell, LACA chair, said: “LACA’s School Chef of the Year continues to represent a highly positive way of communicating the benefits of supporting a high quality school meals service in order to combat obesity and help safeguard the health of the next generation.”
