A man who sexually assaulted a woman after pushing her into a Luton alleyway on Valentine’s Day has been jailed.
Krzysztof Tomkowicz, 30, of Park Street, Luton, approached the victim shortly after 5am as she walked along Bute Street towards The Mall. He pushed her into an alleyway before groping her over her clothing. The victim screamed and woman passer-by came to her aid before Tomkowicz fled towards Silver Street.
Officers alerted CCTV operators at Luton Borough Council who tracked back through their footage and identified the offender. His description was circulated and he was spotted again by CCTV operators in the town at 5.15pm. They directed officers to his location and he was arrested.
He pleaded guilty to sexual assault at Luton Crown Court and was jailed for three years at Luton Crown Court on Friday.
Detective Constable Colin Knight, who investigated the crime, said: “This was a shocking attack. I am grateful to the passer-by who intervened and frightened Tomkowicz off.
“CCTV played a great part in the investigation in identifying him and later arresting him when he was seen in town again later the same day.
“I’d like to thank the CCTV operators at Luton Borough Council who were a massive help.”
