A woman and two children have been rushed to hospital following a severe house fire.
Beds Fire and Rescue Service received the call at 1.40pm this afternoon of a fire in a semi-detached house in Stockingstone Road, Luton.
Two fire crew from Luton and one from Stopsley arrived within minutes to the blaze.
It is understood the woman and two children had been in the house, but had managed to get outside by the time fire crews arrived.
They were believed to be suffering effects from smoke inhalation.
A Beds Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “It was a severe fire and the ground floor suffered 50% damage by the flames. The rest of the building suffered smoke damage.
“As firefighters in breathing apparatus entered the building, the hose reels were used and also a jet.
“Firefighters then ventilated the building and the lady and two children were taken to hospital by ambulance for further medical examination.”
Eyewitnesses have reported that windows were blown out from the flames.
The situation is now stated to be under control.
