The EM Golf Studio based in Wingfield opened its doors fully with an official launch event before Christmas.
To celebrate the start of this exclusive new indoor golf venue, owner Ed Morton invited his golf industry suppliers, local businesses, golf professionals, friends and family and a social media competition winner along.
To help make the night something to remember he invited the 2010 RE/Max World Long Drive Champion, and currently unbeaten in Europe for the last two years, Joe Miller, to open the evening.
After a welcome to the studio, Ed then led a Q&A session with Joe, who talked through how he prepares for his competitions, including a daily intake of 8,000 calories, his gym, warm-up routine and exactly what it takes to hit a golf ball over 400 yards!
The evening was finished off with a Longest Drive competition with both Ed and Joe offering tips on technique to the competitors. The eventual winner of the longest drive was decided after a play-off between Tony Henderson from Tebworth and Jersey resident Rob Morton, after they both hit 264 yards during the competition.
In the end Rob dominated, hitting a cracking drive of 302 yards after Joe’s long driving tips. Rob walked away with the bragging rights and a bottle of champagne.
Ed said: “The event was superb. It really showcased the studio for private and corporate occasions. It was a great idea to get Joe to show off his power in the simulator; everyone could see exactly how far the ball travelled and wants to know how to hit the ball further. Joe is a great pro! I’m really looking forward to a cold winter now, unlike most golfing venues, to help get the business off to a flyer!”
Joe said: “I was very impressed with the facility, which has both indoor and outdoor structures making it as real as possible. The studio itself is top end and apart from the obvious golf set up, it would work fantastically well for business meetings and product launches. I couldn’t speak highly enough and look forward to a prompt return to hone my skills.”
EM Golf Studio is designed for golfers of all abilities, from the beginner to the tour professional.
