Putteridge Primary School pupils and staff have donated food items to Luton Foodbank. Over 1500 items were collected at a harvest festival when children participated in a non-uniform day, donating food instead of money.

Pasta, rice, cereal, fruit juice, soup, tea, coffee and luxury items were all donated to help families this Christmas.

One parent informed the school that they had won £40 on a scratch card and spent it all on food to donate to the charity.

Headteacher Euan Nicholson said: “It is very heart warming and humbling to see the whole community of Putteridge Primary School focusing on helping families in real need as we move into the festive period.

“I would like to thank all the children, parents and staff for their enormous generosity. Luton Foodbank was overwhelmed with the amount of items that were collected.”

Putteridge Primary pupil, Isla, said: “It’s nice to support the foodbank because not all children in Luton are as lucky as us!”

The school made Luton Foodbank their chosen charity for Christmas 2014, they have raised £679.
