Luton Elite Badminton Club held a community badminton tournament last month at Denbigh Sports Hall to mark its fifth anniversary.

The club was formed by a group of volunteers to encourage people from the local community to engage in Badminton.

The club has gone from strength to strength with new members joining every week. It meets at Denbigh High School on Wednesday evenings from 7.pm-9.30pm and also at the High Town Recreation Centre in Luton, on Sunday afternoons from 12pm-2pm.

The club has two teams competing in division 1 and one team competing in division 2 of the Bedfordshire badminton league.

Club chairman Moktadir Meah said: “As residents, we wanted to give something back to this community to tackle the many issues that are evident. We felt we could do this by encouraging people to participate in playing badminton in a fun environment. I would like to thank all volunteers and members who are a part of this club who have done a fantastic job and I would also like to thank Be 2travel, Samad Travel and the Neighbourhood Governance ‘Your Say, Your Way’ for sponsoring this event.”

Applications for funding to fund projects such as this, can be submitted now and the closing date is 5th December 2014.
