Residents and community groups are now being encouraged to come forward with ideas to support local armed forces personnel.

The council is accepting funding applications for the fourth round of the Community Covenant Grant Scheme.

The scheme aims to support members of the armed forces and strengthens its ties with the wider community.

Local groups and projects are able to apply for grants from £100 to £250,000.

Applications close on January, 6, 2015.

Councillor Khtija Malik said: “It was great to see hundreds of local people turn out for this week’s Remembrance services to pay their respects to all the men and women in the armed forces who died so we can live in peace.

“This Community Covenant Grant Scheme is a fantastic initiative which will allow the community to support and respond to the needs of armed forces personnel.

“Whether you are part of a charity or community group; or even if you an individual with a great idea, please get in touch and let us know how it will raise awareness or improve the lives of our returning heroes.”
