A new health and wellbeing award is being launched by Luton’s Mayor, to help children make the right choices about keeping themselves healthy and their future.

The School Health and Wellbeing Award is a locally accredited programme to help students make the most out of life and learning, and ensure they are aware of where to go for support if they need it.

The initiative is in line with new Ofsted requirements for behaviour, safety and safeguarding, staff should be fully trained in areas such as domestic violence, sexual exploitation, radicalisation and extremism.

It is supported by Public Health, school support services, police and CHUMS.

Councillor Aslam Khan said: “The School Health and Wellbeing Award provides a useful tool to help improve health outcomes for local children and young people, with key partners working together to help achieve this goal.

“We are encouraging all secondary schools in Luton to join the award scheme now, along with a few pilot primary schools.

“The scheme will be open to all schools in January.”
