A raid on a suspected brothel in Wellington Street, Luton, means that three have been clposed down so far this year.

Police raided 30B Wellington Street last Wednesday, before seeking a court order for a closure order.

PS Melissa Cunningham, who led the operation, said: “This location was suspected to be a brothel and my team had received complaints from members of the public and local residents who had been experiencing anti-social behaviour from the location. We also had concerns of people trafficking through the address.

“Once inside, police dealt with two female prostitutes, aged 18 and 20, and a 19 year old male customer. No arrests were made and the females were confirmed as not being victims of trafficking. A closure notice was issued at the address in order to shut the premises for up to 48 hours to prevent further illegal activity.

“We then sought a further closure order which was obtained from Luton Magistrates Court on Friday 17 October. Magistrates agreed that these premises should be closed. The closure order prohibits anyone from remaining in or entering the address and if they do so then they will be liable for arrest for a period of three months.

“This is the third brothel my team has closed down in this area this year. Some people may think that as those involved in brothels are all consenting adults and that there shouldn’t be anything wrong with what goes on there. But local people should not have to suffer the continued anti-social behaviour caused by the patrons and employees of such an establishment that blights their lives everyday. We are here to put a stop to this.

“Bedfordshire Police will take positive action against people making life a misery for others and I would personally urge anyone with information about similar locations or suffering such anti-social behaviour to contact Bedfordshire Police on 101, or text information to 07786 200011. Or they can contact Crimestoppers, on 0800 555 111.”
