A 29 year old man is in hospital with serious head injuries after an assault took place in Douglas Road, Luton at the weekend.

The incident happened on Saturday, October 4 at 4.15pm when the victim was sitting in his car talking with a pedestrian at the junction of Erin Close.

Two men got out of a dark VW Golf which was parked across the road in a car park behind a laundrette.

The men walked towards the victim’s gold/bronze Ford Fiesta before attacking him through the window. They then pulled the victim from the Fiesta and hit him over the head with a hammer before kicking him to the ground.

One of the men then got back in to the Golf and left the scene. The second man left the scene running along Douglas Road towards Selbourne Road.

The victim was seriously injured but managed to get back in his car and drove himself to the Luton and Dunstable Hospital for treatment. He has subsequently been transferred to Addenbrookes Hospital for treatment to a serious head wound.

Detective Inspector Sean Quinn, of the South Bedfordshire Serious Crime Team, said: “The victim is described as being in a serious but stable condition at this time and although we have not been able to fully speak with him we believe he may have known the men responsible for the attack.”

He added: “This was a violent assault which happened in broad daylight and we need the public to help identify the men responsible. I would urge anyone who witnessed the assault or anyone who can help trace those responsible to come forward and assist this investigation.”

The first offender is described as the driver of the Golf – he was of Asian appearance and wearing pale knee-length shorts, a grey-hooded top and had a stocky build.

The second offender is described as the front seat passenger of the Golf – he was also of Asian appearance and wearing a grey top (possibly hooded) and dark trousers with white training shoes. He was carrying a hammer and was slightly shorter than the driver.
