Three students from Barton-Le-Clay will be taking part in the Birmingham Half Marathon, to raise money for charity, on Sunday, October 19.

Natalie Peire,21, has teamed up with Hannah Cunningham and Rachel Pearson to raise money for WMUK.

Waldenstrom’s Macroglobulinemia (WM) is a very rare type of Non-Hodgkin Lymphoma, it is a treatable, but not yet curable form of cancer which affects the blood and lymphatic system, there are around 400 people diagnosed in the UK in a year.

Natalie said: “It is a disease very close to my heart and I wanted to do something to help.

“We hope to raise £4000 and raise awareness for WM.”

A linked biobank costs £20,000, this will be a biological database of samples which will enable research to be conducted and help to match treatment to DNA defects rather than using aggressive chemotherapy on everyone.

She added: “Unfortunately, due to an accident on my knee, I can’t run so I am swimming and cycling to try and be fit in time, I will walk the distance if I have to!”
