Police have appealed for witnesses after a man was spotted attempting to break into a number of homes on Hitchin Road, Luton, at 5.30pm last Saturday (August 23).

The man is described as wearing a blue hooded top, dark bottoms, gloves and black pump style shoes with a white bottom trim and sole.

He was carrying a bag, possibly a brown paper bag with handles.

PC Karen Bright, investigating, is keen to trace anyone who was in the area on Saturday morning and noticed a man matching this description.

PC Bright said: “Shortly after the man was spotted trying to get in to homes in the area a Volkswagen Polo, KJ57HTA, was also reported stolen from the same road.

“This area is busy even at this time of the day and it is possible that motorists or pedestrians may have seen the man and I would urge these witnesses to contact the police as they could hold vital information that may help identify the man.”

Anyone with information relating to this crime can contact PC Karen Bright, in confidence, at Luton Police Station, on 01582 394091, or Bedfordshire Police on 101, or text information to 07786 200011.

Alternatively contact the independent crime fighting charity Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
