OPERATION Vision is coming to High Town in Luton on Thursday (Feb 16) – this time offering a chance for residents to get involved.
The Vision initiative started life in Bedford in September 2009 – and since then has travelled all round the county delivering an opportunity for Bedfordshire residents to talk to their local police without leaving the comfort of their own homes.
The aim is to talk to as many residents of a particular community as possible – by knocking on doors and asking questions about what the main concerns of the community are.
Police officers, PCSOs, cadets and support staff take a day out of the normal office job and are all mobilised into the patch and this time residents will be able to meet Police Authority Member and Luton Borough Councillor Roxanna Whittaker who will be joining the volunteers.
Typically, 100s of homes are visited in a day – and other activities such as the force’s car crime reduction initiative ‘Your Numbers Up’ will be running at the Back Street car park from 11am to 3.30pm.
In High Town, there are two main aims of the day. Firstly, to give residents advice about how they can prevent their homes becoming the target of burglars; and secondly to highlight the work police and other agencies within the SoLUTiONs partnership have achieved so far.
A drop in surgery will also be held at the Methodist Church in High Town Road between 11am and 2pm where officers will receive callers.
The High Town Local Policing Team are based at Britannia House and can be contacted by dialing Bedfordshire Police on 101 or visit the force’s website at www.bedfordshire.police.uk.
