DETECTIVES in Luton are appealing for witnesses after a couple were threatened with a gun by a gang in their own home.
The incident happened just before 9pm on Tuesday evening at a house in Pastures Way when a group of five to six men entered the property through the conservatory and threatened the occupants with a gun and other weapons.
The men searched the property before taking cash and assaulting the 54 year old male resident. They then left the scene in an unknown direction.
The resident was taken to hospital for treatment to a head injury and his partner was also taken to hospital for a check up.
One of the offenders is described as a white man, approximately 27 years old with an average build. He wore a black top and black bottoms.
Another offender is described as a man of Asian appearance, approximately 27 years old with a stocky build. He wore a balaclava, a black round necked jumper and black trousers.
There are no other descriptions available of the other offenders.
The officer in charge of this investigation, Detective Constable Helen Howson, is keen to trace anyone who has information about those responsible for this crime.
Det Con Howson said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the Pastures Way area on Tuesday evening and saw anything suspicious to come forward and help with this investigation.”
She continued: “While the actual threat caused by gun crime is very small and does not affect the vast majority of law abiding people within Bedfordshire, we are not complacent about the dangers posed by these weapons and would therefore urge anyone who has information about those people who carry or have access to illegal weapons to have the courage to come forward and speak to the police. With the help of the public we can rid our county of these weapons and reduce the small number of people affected by gun crime still further.”
