Many teenagers across Luton were celebrating their GCSE results on Thursday, August 21.
The early indication of results are that it has been another good year for students across the schools in the Borough.
A spokesperson for the council said: “In Luton, early indications are that students have done well in the important core subjects of English and mathematics with a number of schools reporting significant improvements in results for these two subjects.
“In common with all schools nationally, results have been affected by the numerous changes in syllabuses, examinations and what can now be counted as a good GCSE result.
“This has led to a high level of uncertainty and volatility in outcomes for young people and schools and a clear picture of standards achieved will not be available for some time yet.”
Putteridge High School students had many success stories and many have plans to go onto college to continue their studies, or follow work related training.
English and Maths results for attainment and progress were both above the national average and Helen Beauchamp, Headteacher, praised the hard work, dedication and commitment of the teaching and support staff, who have given so much of their own time to support youngsters to achieve their best. “We are proud of the achievements of all of our students, who have worked with us to achieve these excellent results.”
Students achieving 8 or more A and A* grades include Jade Barrett, Cui Ying Chen, Jasmine Dodds, Sean Edwards, Billy Gradwell-Smith, Louise Hooton, Tasnim Hussain, Hannah James, Esther Lodge, Lauren Maroney, Loren Philpot, Sahd Sajid, Meghna Shah, Laura Wiles.
”Lauren Maroney said “I can’t wait to go onto Sixth Form College to do A levels in Law, English, Psychology and Media.”
Barfield South Academy was delighted with its students results.
A spokesperson for the Academy said: “Students at the Barnfield Academies, who collected their results this morning, expressed delight at their performances despite very different measures being in place this year. A large number of our students will now continue with post-16 courses in September, many of these will be returning to the Barnfield Sixth Form. Staff across Barnfield wish to congratulate all our students on what they have achieved.”
