Active Luton coaches and volunteers delivered a free fitness taster session to the community at Stockwood Park last week.

The event was organised as part of Run England’s 3-2-1 programme, which encourages people to walk, run or jog in marked out open spaces.

The programme is supported by the council and Active Luton as part of their aim of encouraging more residents to be active.

Helen Barnett, chief executive of Active Luton, said: “It was great to see local people come out and get a little taster of the types of fun activities we offer at Active Luton and see first-hand how they can improve their health and wellbeing in Luton’s magnificent open spaces.

“We work in a variety of community settings to make it easier for people to have a go and feel comfortable taking part in physical activity.”

Team Leader’s from the Trust’s Me Time programme attended the event, the programme encourages more women to take part in physical activity sport by offering a variety of women only sports and fitness programmes across the town.

Sabrina Bakare, Team GB junior athlete, attended the event and took the children around the course.

Councillor Aslam Khan said: “It was recently confirmed that seven of the town’s parks retained their Green Flag awards which makes them ideal places to enjoy the fresh air and keep healthy.

“We’re very supportive of the 3-2-1 initiative as having marked routes by various distances makes it more likely for people to have a go by setting themselves a specific aim.”
