THE popular Indoor Market in Luton will turn 40 on Friday and to celebrate, shoppers are invited to a day of festivities, finishing with the cutting of a cake at 2.30pm.
The Indoor Market was the first phase of the then-named Arndale Centre in 1972 and opened on January 27 by Zena Skinner, the Luton-born former BBC celebrity chef, who will be attending the anniversary celebrations with Mayor Don Worlding and Esther Rantzen.
Market manager Dave Gibbs said: “It’s very heartening to see that the market is still thriving some four decades on – albeit within a very different retail environment.”
