A WOMAN died and another is fighting for her life after a car accident involving two vehicles in Slip End on Saturday (January 21).
The women, who are believed to be sisters from Dunstable, were involved in a collision with a second car in Newlands Road at 2.07pm.
The East Anglian Air Ambulance (EAAA) and ambulance crews attended and the road was closed for several hours.
East of England Ambulance Service (EEAST) spokesman Gary Sanderson, who attended the scene, said: “First and foremost our thoughts are with the girls’ family at this tragic time.
“On our arrival, the front seat passenger of one of the cars involved, a woman, received serious injuries. Following rapid assessments at the scene by ambulance and air ambulance crews, she was was pronounced dead at the scene.
“A second woman, the driver of the car, recieved life threatening injuries. She was treated, stabilised and immobilised by land and critical care paramedics before she was flown to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridgeshire where she remains in a serious condition.”
A woman from the second car involved was slightly injured and she was taken by land ambulance to the Luton & Dunstable Hospital for further assessments.
