VETERAN broadcaster Jonathan Dimbleby and the Any Questions team were in Luton on Friday to record the popular BBC Radio 4 programme at the Dallow Learning Community Centre.

The distinguished announcer was joined by an equally acclaimed panel of guests including Culture Secretary Jeremy Hunt, former Lloyds chairman Lord Levene, Shadow Justice Secretary Sadiq Khan and writer Bonnie Greer.

The 45 minute show, which included questions about Jeremy Clarkson and last week’s one-day strike, was broadcast live just after the 8pm news bulletin.

Centre manager Haroon Ahmed said he had been approached by the BBC who asked if the Dallow Development Trust would host the event.

He said: “Jonathan Dimbleby was very good. He created a very nice mood and atmosphere and it was very entertaining.

“The BBC team arrived about midday and were there until about 10.30pm.” The audience included councillors representing Luton’s various political parties as well as members of the Trust with enthusiastic support from the local community.

Haroon said: “It was a very prestigious event for Luton, particularly in the run-up to the Olympics.

“I personally felt it helped to build the profile of the town, the area and the Trust.”

Panel members stayed on for about an hour chatting to the audience and posing for photographs.

Dallow Development Trust chair Zulfqar Ahmed said: “We felt immensely privileged and honoured to have been chosen to host such a prestigious event.”
