FORMER council offices in Luton town centre could be transformed into a 60 bedroom three star hotel.
Plans have been submitted for Town hall approval to convert Stuart House, which is the neighbouring building to the Luton News offices in Upper George Street, from its current guise as an office block.
Plans for the 900 square metre four storey building include 20 rooms on each of the first, second and third floor spaces.
The hotel will also feature a bar and restaurant area on the ground floor.
Luton Borough Council are set to vacate the building today after letting the lease expire.
Staff who worked in the building, which housed the Town Hall’s finance, corporate accountancy and corporate procurement departments, have already been relocated to offices at Unity House, in Stuart Street, and Wesley House, in Chapel Street.
It is thought that relinquishing the lease of the building will save the council around £153,000 a year in rent.
