Business is booming in Luton according to a recent report which ranked it 16th out of 100 towns for economic growth.
The chart, compiled by Duport.co.uk, organises the top 100 UK towns by their net growth during the year, by measuring new companies created and companies dissolved.
Luton scored 2.43 per cent for growth, but Wirral was top of the chart with 4.67 per cent growth.
Last year was a record year for company registrations in Luton compared to any other year in history, with 1,841 companies forming.
This is 19.9 per cent more than in 2011 and compares favourably to the UK figure of 8.6 per cent growth.
Other nearby towns Northampton and Milton Keynes charted above Luton, but Aylesbury, High Wycombe, Oxford, Cambridge and St Albans were all lower.
Stockport had the least growth, scoring -5.8 per cent.
The average age of a Luton company director in 2012 was 39.7, but there was a higher percentage of directors under the age of 25 in Luton that in the rest of the UK; 5.6 per cent compared to 3.8 per cent.
Women were not very well represented, with only 24.2 per cent of company directors in Luton being female, compared to 29.9 per cent nationally in 2012.
