There were celebrations in the Herald & Post offices this week when reporter Connie Primmer found out she’d not only passed her senior journalism exams but also won a prestigious award.
The newly-qualified senior reporter, who has worked at the Luton News and Herald & Post for just over two years, was chosen by examiners to receive the Ted Bottomley Award for her media law and practice exam, with an answer which was described as close to perfect.
The examiners said: “What swung it for Connie was a quite exceptional ethics answer on top of first-rate law. Her approach to this question was sensitive and sensible...These questions are unlikely to produce a perfect answer, but Connie came very close. Congratulations!”
The media law and practice paper is part of the NQJ exam, and Connie got a distinction and two merits for the rest of the qualification and will receive a certificate and a £250 prize.
Connie, who trained at News Associates in Manchester, said: “I am absolutely delighted. I was thrilled just to pass the NQJ, but to win a prize as well is a dream come true.”
