TWO car traders have been convicted of selling vehicles not fit to be driven on the road.

On January 3, Zain Ul Abadin, of Kent Road, Luton, who traded as Alnoor Motors in Tavistock Street, Dunstable, was found guilty of exposing 12 unroadworthy cars to the general public.

He was also convicted of selling a Toyota car with 92,000 miles on the odometer that was found to have recorded mileage of 128,001 in a previous MOT.

The customer returned the vehicle, only for Abadin to re-sell it to another customer.

Abadin pleaded guilty at Luton Magistrates Court and was ordered to pay £785 in fines and costs.

On January 4, Awais Javed, of Parys Road, Luton, and his company Sysworld Ltd were convicted of exposing three unroadworthy cars for sale.

Magistrates described him as grossly negligent as one of the cars was found to have corroded brake pipes.

Javed pleaded not guilty but was convicted and ordered to pay £805 in fines and costs.

Trading Standards advises motorists to fully research any vehicle before buying, and that traders cannot waive consumer rights by using phrases such as ‘sold as seen’.
