A man who allegedly had his hand almost severed in an assault earlier today in Luton’s Inkerman Street was staggering around in a pool of blood, according to a witness.

The man, who didn’t want to be named, said: ”I was standing on the street when a chap came round the corner with blood dripping down his trousers and shoes.

“It looked like someone had axed his arm and he was just wandering round in shock. A man with him was on the phone calling the police.”
After the victim’s arm was strapped up and he was taken away in an ambulance, the witness said he followed the trail of blood into a little alleyway near the car park.

“It was spattered with blood and it looked like someone had been to the toilet in there,” he said. “I can’t imagine what happened.”

According to spokesman Gary Sanderson, EEAST crews, the ambulance service hazardous area response team (HART) and the Herts Air Ambulance were alerted to Inkerman Street at 12.51pm.

He said: “A man has been airlifted to a specialist trauma centre for further care.”

There is no further information available.
