Despite producing 70% of the world’s food, over half of the world’s hungriest people are smallholder farmers in the third world. In this year’s Fairtrade fortnight, thousands of people got creative with their Fairtrade campaigning to highlight the importance of smallholder farmers in agriculture. In Luton, volunteers from the Luton Fairtrade held a Fairtrade stall in the Mall to raise awareness, encouraging people to think globally and acting locally in a globalised economic system. Shoppers could taste different Fairtrade products. Fairtrade accounts for a tiny percentage of world agricultural trade. This Fairtrade fortnight we urge you to sign the petition calling on David Cameron to go further and champion a better deal for the world’s smallholder farmers at this year’s G8 meeting. It is simple. Log on http://step.fairtrade.org.uk
