The ongoing debate over the future of A levels was one of the main topics for the inaugural Vice Chancellor’s Public Policy lecture series on Thursday.
David Blunkett MP was the guest speaker at a packed hall at the University of Bedfordshire.
Taking several swipes at the current Government, the former Education Secretary defended his time in office.
He also called for universities to join together to develop e-universities.
Condemning the current proposals to go back to core A level subjects, including Latin, he said students needed to diversify and be encouraged to be creative.”We’re trashing where we improve and denigrate when we succeed,” he said.
Guest speaker at the next lecture in May will be Commons Speaker John Bercow.
