Road closures for work on the busway

Church Street in Luton will be closed to motorists and pedestrians for five nights to allow for work on the Luton Dunstable Busway.

The closures will be from Monday March 11 - Friday March 15 inclusive, from 8pm - 5pm each night, between Midland Road and the entrance to the Bute Street car park.

This is to enable a new footpath and a traffic island to be completed.

Hatters Way will also be closed over the next three weekends from 5am Saturdays - 10pm Sundays while concrete beams and pads are laid on a length of the guided track.

Keith Dove, the Council’s transportation strategy and regulation manager, said: “We are building the Luton Dunstable Busway in order to improve journey times and reduce congestion across the conurbation. We appreciate and apologise for the inconvenience these closures will cause in the meantime and will of course do everything we can to keep traffic moving as freely as possible.”

Meanwhile, an additional overnight lane closure at the junction of Guildford Street, Station Road and Mill Street means traffic approaching Guildford Street from Old Bedford Road will only be able to turn right into Mill Street, also between 8pm and 5am from March 11 until March 15 inclusive.

The Council’s contractor will however ensure that these closures are not in operation at the same time.

Luton Town FC have home games at Kenilworth Road in the Conference Premier Division against Hereford on 9 March and Tamworth on 23 March, and drivers are particularly advised to leave extra time for their journeys around Luton town centre on these dates. Clifton Road is however now fully reopened.
