AN RAF bomb disposal squad say a device found in a Stopsley shed last week was a Second World War German incendiary bomb.
The bomb, found in a shed in Stapleford Road, was designed to start an intense fire that would destroy combustible materials in minutes.
Experts from of RAF Wittering-based 5131 (Bomb Disposal) Squadron took away the foot-long shell, and an X-ray showed it was still live.
They took it away to a safe site nearby for demolition.
A RAF spokesman said: “We have a team on 30 minutes’ notice at all times and would urge anyone finding a suspicious item to leave it alone and call the police.”
