Long-standing Wigmore councillor Roy Davies has sadly passed away.

The Liberal Democrat represented the people of Wigmore, Putteridge and Stopsley for 30 years.

He moved to Luton with his family 40 years ago, and he and his wife Jenny were both elected to Beds County Council as Liberals in 1981.

In his spare time, the beloved father and grandfather was an avid model boat builder.

A statement on the Liberal Democrats website said: “Roy believed that local people should always be consulted before decisions were made and had frequent battles with the authorities when they have tried to impose decisions that people didn’t want. He never forgot that being a local representative was about listening to local people.”

Campaigns Roy fought over the years include having a new fire station built in Stopsley to improve response times and safety for the east of Luton.

As well as being a local campaigner, Roy was a long standing member of the Luton Airport Board and the Bedfordshire Fire Authority, standing up for local interests.

His funeral will be held at The Vale on February 21 at noon. Friends are welcome, flowers are welcome, and donations to the Macmillan Cancer Support may be sent to Co-operative Funeralcare in Stopsley. Call 01582 451209.
