A widow who has just moved to Luton is furious with phone company TalkTalk who have blocked her outgoing calls.
Marie McKay, 73, has been unable to make calls since December 27, and numerous phone calls and letters to TalkTalk have been to no avail.
A TalkTalk engineer visited Mrs McKay in her Sundon Park home on Monday and told her the only thing wrong with the phone was the block TalkTalk had put on it.
Mrs McKay said: “It’s driving me up the wall, it really is. I am at the end of my tether. I have high blood pressure, I can’t sleep. My doctor said I’m under a lot of stress. This is why.”
The pensioner, who lives alone, is still paying her monthly direct debits to TalkTalk, and received a bill for £34.34 on Tuesday.
Mrs McKay said: “I usually don’t panic, I am quite a level-headed old lady, but this is worrying me.
“I’ve run my mobile phone down to the last penny.”
Along with her bill, Mrs McKay received a separate letter offering her as a “valued customer” an upgrade.
Mrs McKay scoffed: “Upgrade to what? More problems? It is totally mad, beyond a joke. They TalkTalk but won’t listen listen.”
A TalkTalk spokesperson said: “Another company made a mistake and told us Mrs McKay was switching to them. We are working to restore a full service and will offer a goodwill gesture for the loss of service.”
TalkTalk was the most complained about landline telephone company in Ofcom’s most recent survey for the third quarter of 2012.
