Union J are in the final five of this year’s X Factor, after a shock result on Sunday that saw show favourite Ella Henderson sent home.
Stopsley singer Jaymi Hensley, 22, will now perform in the quarter finals as his band sailed through the latest round of the competition.
Delighted mum Jackie Hensley said: “I can’t believe it. I am totally in shock but absolutely estactic. We thought they were going to go last week when it was battle of the boybands, and when they won we were so pleased. Anything more than winning their category is a bonus.”
Speaking about the departure of Ella, she said: “It was a very surprising result. Everyone [in the studio audience] just went into shock. They called the boys through first so we were all cheering, then when they announced the bottom two, you could hear a pin drop. I am not often speechless but I was lost for words.
“The boys were devastated to see Ella go home as they have become so close, she is like their little sister. They are happy they’ve come this far though and they deserve to be there. Jaymi’s voice is sensational.”
Jackie revealed Union J will sing two songs in Saturday’s quarter final show; a Motown song and an Abba single.
Jackie said: “It’s amazing for them to have come so far, we’ve had so much support especially on Twitter. Everyone needs to keep voting.”
