THE holiday period can be stressful and challenging.
So try to avoid the extra pressure brought on by stretched finances and fraught relationships.
Mental health chief Dr Patrick Geoghegan said: “One in four people experience mental health problems and difficulties are heightened at this time of year.” Here are his top tips for keeping healthy and happy:
> Try not to overspend and get into debt.
> If you have problems with family and friends, ask if you can get together to talk through issues.
> If you’re lonely, think about volunteering. You’ll meet like-minded people and be kept active.
> Try not to overindulge when it comes to food and alcohol.
> Exercise has a positive effect on mental and physical health so a walk will make you feel better.
